I'm using intertexuality from the movie 'Legally Blonde' as it's a movie about a breakup, like the song I've chosen is, and it's a movie that most teenage girls will have seen which is the target audience for my music video. I will have the motif of a cake and parties throughout the video which will add to the narrative and show how her emotional state after the breakup is deteriorating. There will be lots of pink at the start, linking to the legally blonde theme, and then colours will turn darker towards the end showing how she is loosing herself and her brightness. Costuming and makeup will be over exaggerated for example she will have very obvious mascara and lipstick stains from crying and extravagant dresses. There will be many scenes in the bath or shower linking to the lyrics 'crying on the floor of my bathroom'.

textual analysis of 3 videos - week 2

Image
Textual Analysis of 3 videos   Good 4 U – Olivia Rodrigo ·        Narrative is: Presumably has had a breakup. She becomes rude to everyone (bumping into people, throwing things on floor). She then buys bleach and sets his house on fire. By the end she has become fully crazy.  ·        Shot duration: much longer, usually lasts at least one line and is on average around 5 seconds long but some last up to 20 seconds. In the intro she has a continuous shot of about 15 seconds with 1 second flickers of other shots every 5 seconds. Shot duration gets shorter in the bridge with consecutive 1, 2 and 3 second shots. ·        Balance of narrative and performative elements: Tons of references to Jennifer’s body and The Princess Diaries. At the start of the video she is presumably acting like Lana in The Princess Diaries, a bitter mean girl but relatively innocent. As the video goes on there i...

permission letter - week 2

Kristen Smith 9130 Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles, California   To whomever this may concern,   I am a Media Studies A-Level student at Weald of Kent Grammar School in Tonbridge, Kent in England. As part of our coursework we are instructed to create a music video to an existing song and I was wondering if I would be able to have consent to use Olivia Rodrigo’s song ‘Good 4 U’ in my music video. This will be posted privately to YouTube and will only be shared with my teachers, examiners and classmates. I will not be making any profit from it or using the song to gain any kind of income.   I hope you consider and I look forward to hearing back from you.   Beth Clifton

my chosen song - week 2

I have chosen Good 4 U by Olivia Rodrigo. One reason is that it would be easy to link intertextuality. For example, I have chosen to reference the movies Legally Blonde and John Tucker Must Die because these are 2 films where the main characters are dumped by a boy and are angry and upset about it, which is what the song is about. I've also chosen this song because it has a very clear message and is easy to create a narrative from. It's also an upbeat song which leaves room for plenty of varied shot types and durations.  I have chosen Olivia Rodrigo because she is the same age and gender as the actor in my video so the lip-syncing will look realistic.
