Music Video Evaluation
Firstly, I think my storyboarding was effective and definitely a huge help when it came to both filming and editing my video. I restarted my storyboard 3 times due to change of song and limited location because of lockdown. This meant I was very secure with the final storyboard as I had plenty of chances to replace anything I didn't like. When filming I stuck to my storyboard completely and I think this planning showed in the final product. I also storyboarded all the transitions I was going to used which made it easier to jump straight into the creative editing process. I also thought my costuming was effective as it helped to show exactly which activities she was doing in the video. For example when meditating she was wearing a gym outfit and when on a zoom call she was wearing smart clothes and glasses. Most importantly, I think costuming was a huge aid in showing the intertexuality with Clueless, the 90s movie, in my video. I managed as best as I could to replicate Cher's iconic yellow plaid outfit which when linked with the font at the beginning, and shot of writing at a desk using an extravagant pink pen, made the homage a lot more obvious. Lastly I think my transitions near the beginning and the end of the video made the change between shots a lot smoother. I tried to do most of them naturally so it flowed even better. For example, when she was brushing her teeth she leant over as if she was spitting out the toothpaste into the sink and this transitioned straight into the next scene where she was bending over to do some yoga stretches. I think this showed some creative thought and also made the shots look slicker.
However there were many parts of the process of making my music video that I would need to improve for next time. The first being filming the clips for longer. Towards the end, the transition was not on beat and this was because I didn't film a long enough clip and had to cut out the beginning of the shot as it was very shaky. This then lead to the whole video finishing far too early and the clip that came after also being completely off beat. Next time I will make sure to film the shot for either longer than I need or film it multiple times. The next thing I would do differently is have a more definite ending as it was just a fade out to black. It was also made even more indefinite by the lengthiness of the fade which was caused by the previous point. Next time I will definitely have a planned ending that is sharp and looks purposeful. Some of my lip syncing could have been matched better to the song as well as a shot of a finger click which should have been on beat. This was due to lack of specific attention to detail which I will think about more next time.
